How to Use

Choose a starting sample
In Data, choose Budget vs Actual for a four-quarter comparison with dollar values, Product Comparison for two series without a unit symbol, or Channel Mix for stacked parts of a total. Monthly Revenue opens a single series. A sample replaces the current chart, so choose it before entering your own data.

Label the periods and series
Click the title and category labels to edit them. In Grouped or Stacked, rename each series in the legend. Use Categories + or − to add a category or remove the last one. Put the measurement and unit in the title, and keep months or quarters in chronological order yourself.

Enter exact measurements
Click a value, type a non-negative number and press Enter. Stacked values are editable in the table below the plot; the selected-value control is another way to enter a number. Dragging a column or segment changes its data, so use exact values for measured results. Replace the sample values in every category and series.

Choose what the columns should compare
Grouped means clustered: it puts each series side by side. Use Stacked only when the series are non-overlapping parts of a meaningful total. Vertical shows the first series, retaining the others for a return to Grouped or Stacked. If you need another series, select Add series and replace its sample values.

Check and download the graph
Choose a style such as Clean Report in Style and set colours in Data. Check the title, legend, period order, units and all values, then select Download PNG. Standard PNG is free without signup or a watermark. Inspect the downloaded labels at the size you will use in your report or slide.

Worked example: quarterly budget versus actual
Illustrative data, not a real business result: a small project compares its planned and actual costs for four quarters. All amounts below are US dollars (USD), not thousands of dollars. Use Grouped columns so each quarter shows the two amounts side by side.
Q1: Budget $100; Actual $110 — $10 above plan.
Q2: Budget $120; Actual $100 — $20 below plan.
Q3: Budget $90; Actual $105 — $15 above plan.
Q4: Budget $120; Actual $120 — equal to plan.
The annual budget is $430 and the actual cost is $435, a $5 excess. These totals and differences are calculated from the example data; the chart does not calculate or display a variance series for you. Replace the illustrative values with your own figures for a real report.
Build and check the quarterly comparison
In Data, choose Budget vs Actual. Keep Grouped selected, the four labels Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4, and the Budget and Actual legend names. Change the title to “Quarterly budget vs actual (USD)”. The sample already supplies the $ symbol.
Enter Budget values 100, 120, 90 and 120, then Actual values 110, 100, 105 and 120. Click each number on the chart and press Enter after typing. Check the legend before editing so you change the intended series. Do not choose another sample after entering your figures.
Check that Actual is taller than Budget in Q1 and Q3, shorter in Q2, and exactly the same height in Q4. Keep the quarters in Q1–Q4 order; the tool does not sort them for you. Use the dollar amounts to read exact differences, not just the apparent gap between column tops.
Choose Clean Report in Style, then Download PNG. Inspect the saved title, all four quarter labels, both legend names and all eight values. Keep this example grouped: stacking the two amounts would combine a plan and its outcome into a misleading total. Switching to Vertical shows Budget alone; returning to Grouped restores the Actual comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a clustered column chart?
Each category has one column per series, side by side. Choose Grouped under Type to compare budget and actual for each quarter, for example. If there is only one series, use Add series and enter the second set of values; changing the layout does not invent comparison data. Grouped and Stacked are vertical layouts here, not horizontal multi-series charts.
When should I use stacked columns?
Use Stacked for non-overlapping parts of the same total, measured in the same unit, such as orders from separate sales channels. Channel Mix is a starting sample; selecting it replaces your chart. Segment values can be edited in the table below the plot. Do not stack budget and actual: the plan and the result are alternatives to compare, not parts to add together. This layout stacks the entered numbers; it does not automatically convert them into percentages.
Can I plot zero, decimals or negative values?
Zero and positive decimals are supported. Zero has no coloured column or segment, and its number remains editable. Negative values and invalid text are rejected with feedback; the last accepted value is kept and restored when you finish editing. This studio has no signed axis for values below zero.
Will switching layouts keep both series?
Yes. Grouped and Stacked use the entered series. Vertical and Horizontal show only the first series and retain the others for when you switch back. Choosing a starting sample replaces the chart instead. Added categories and series contain sample values that you should replace before presenting the result.
How do I set the units and axis titles?
Symbols come from the starting sample: Monthly Revenue and Budget vs Actual use $, Survey Results uses %, and Product Comparison, Top Regions and Channel Mix have no unit symbol. There is no separate unit-symbol or axis-title control in this studio. State the unit in the graph title, use the same scale for every series and calculate percentages before entering them if needed.
Can I make a column chart without Excel?
Yes. Build it directly on the page: name the categories, drag or type the values, and download. There is nothing to install and no workbook to set up.
Can I match the colors to my brand?
Yes. With one series, every column can have its own color; with several series, each series gets a color you choose. Style packs restyle the whole chart in one click.
Which exports are free, and can I reopen a saved chart?
Standard PNG is free without signup or a watermark. This studio's HD PNG at 2×, 3× or 4×, SVG and animated video require Pro or an active export pass. Save requires sign-in, and account storage limits apply. A PNG is an image, not an editable saved chart. Check SVG or video output in the application where you intend to use it.
