How to Use

Choose a starter before editing
For the worked example below, choose Product readiness: it already has Current and Target profiles in Benchmark web. Choosing another starter or Reset replaces your working chart, including its scores and display choices.

Name the axes and replace the sample scores
Open Axes and name 3 to 10 criteria. Use the same rating scale and meaning of higher scores throughout. Replace both profiles' sample values with your own; added axes or profiles also contain generated example values.

Apply scores, then set the maximum
Type a score from 0 to the current maximum; decimals are allowed. Press Enter or leave the field to apply it. For a smaller scale, lower every score first, then set Max score. The maximum must be a whole number from 1 to 1000 and cannot be below any stored score, including hidden profiles.

Choose the comparison and label it
Use Profile radar for one visible profile, Comparison radar for up to four, or Benchmark web for Current versus Target. Click the chart title and subtitle to explain the task and scale. Turn Values on to check individual scores; judge gaps along each spoke rather than the filled area.

Check the canvas and download
Choose a theme and Compact, Report or Slide size, then inspect labels and the legend. Download PNG creates a standard image without signing in. Save is a separate signed-in action for an editable design; a downloaded PNG is not an editable project.

Worked example: a fictional workshop practice plan
Choose Product readiness and keep Benchmark web. Open Axes and rename the six axes, in order, to Planning, Writing, Visuals, Speaking, Review and Timing. The following scores are invented to demonstrate the tool; they are not research results or a validated skills assessment.
Enter these Current / Target pairs: Planning 4 / 8; Writing 6 / 8; Visuals 0 / 6; Speaking 7 / 8; Review 5 / 7; Timing 3.5 / 7. Replace all twelve starter values while the maximum is still 100. Then change Max score to 10. This order avoids asking the smaller scale to contain the starter's larger scores.
Click the title on the chart and enter Fictional Workshop Practice. Set the subtitle to Illustrative scores: 0–10, higher means stronger practice. Keep the blue Current and green Target profiles, Studio theme, Report size and top legend. Turn Values on. Visuals should put Current at the centre, and Timing should retain 3.5.
Read the gaps on each spoke
Subtract Current from Target for each criterion. The gaps are Planning 4, Writing 2, Visuals 6, Speaking 1, Review 2 and Timing 3.5. Visuals has the largest gap in this example; Speaking has the smallest. Those differences reflect the supplied fictional targets, not an automatic recommendation about what matters most.
Do not treat the filled polygon area as a total score or an overall ranking. Changing the axis order changes the outline. Keep the same axis order and rubric when comparing charts over time, and use a table or grouped bars when exact differences are more useful than the profile shape.
Check the image before sharing
Download the Report PNG and check all six labels, both legend entries, the 0 score and the 3.5 score. Report exports at 840 × 620 pixels; Compact uses 760 × 560 and Slide uses 1200 × 675. Preview zoom changes your view, not the exported canvas size.
Include the rubric, who supplied the scores and the date when sharing your own worksheet. A spider chart makes entered ratings visible; it does not establish that the ratings are fair, representative or comparable. Keep the underlying numbers alongside the image so another reader can check the comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a spider chart different from a radar chart?
Both names describe scores plotted on spokes around a shared centre. This page uses the same chart studio as radar-chart-maker. You can enter scores here without Excel; the worksheet below focuses on a current-versus-target practice plan.
What scale should I use?
Choose a common rubric, such as 0 meaning no practice yet and 10 meaning the defined practice goal is met. Keep the units and direction consistent across axes and profiles. The tool does not normalize mixed units or calculate a weighted overall score for you.
Why did my score not change, and how do I recover?
A blank, negative, nonfinite or above-maximum entry does not replace the last accepted score. Read the field feedback, enter a number from 0 to the maximum, then press Enter or leave the field. Escape cancels the draft. Zero and decimals are valid; dragging a point along its spoke uses whole-number scores.
Why can I not lower Max score to 10?
Every stored score must fit the new maximum. Replace scores above 10 first, including any profiles hidden by Profile radar, then enter 10 and press Enter or leave the field. Invalid maximum entries preserve the accepted scale; Escape cancels the draft. The allowed maximum is a whole number from 1 to 1000.
Does Benchmark web calculate targets for me?
No. Starter scores and any automatically added Target values are examples, not measurements or recommended goals. Supply targets using your own rubric. Switching to Profile radar hides extra profiles rather than deleting their scores; Comparison radar shows the retained profiles again.
Can I change starters without losing my entries?
Choosing Product readiness, Candidate skills, Vendor capability or Reset replaces the working chart. Pick your starter first. Save an editable copy while signed in if you need to keep work for later; exporting a PNG keeps an image, not the editable scores.
Is PNG download free, and what needs Pro access?
Standard PNG download is free, without signup or a watermark. HD PNG, SVG and MP4 exports require Pro access or an active export pass. Saving an editable design is separate and requires signing in; downloading a PNG does not save a project to your account.
