How to Use

Choose a starter and replace its context
Choose one of five presets, such as Product taxonomy. In the Data panel, replace the eyebrow, title and context as well as the node labels and short details. Choosing another preset or Reset replaces those edits with sample content.

Set each node’s parent
Edit the nodes in the panel and choose one parent for each. No parent starts a separate root. Add node creates a child of the first root; change its parent if needed. A node cannot be its own parent or a child of its descendants.

Choose a layout and canvas size
Choose Tree, Layered hierarchy, Compact outline or Card map, then Mobile, Square or Slide. The canvas can expand with the structure. Selecting a layout or size clears manual drag positions, so make these choices before final placement.

Style and inspect the labels
Choose a theme, adjust text scale and drag cards if needed. Use short labels and details: long text can be shortened or omitted in the diagram even though the full input remains in the panel. Preview zoom changes your working view, not the exported image size.

Download and check the PNG
Click Download PNG for a free standard image without signup or a watermark. Open the file and check its dimensions, branches and every label before sharing. SVG, HD PNG and MP4 exports require Pro or an active export pass.

Worked example: a resource library
This is a synthetic example, not a real library inventory. It uses seven nodes across three levels: one library, three categories and one resource beneath each category. Start with Product taxonomy so the seven existing nodes already have those relationships.
Replace GraphMake Platform with Sample library and its detail with Illustrative content. Replace Workspace with Books / Browse titles; Canvas tools with Activities / Try a project; and Export system with Guides / Find instructions. Each pair here means label / short detail, entered in the two separate fields.
Replace Templates with Paper crafts / Simple projects; Collaboration with Picture books / Illustrated stories; and Delivery with Reading tips / Practical ideas. Keep Sample library at No parent. Books, Activities and Guides belong to Sample library; Paper crafts belongs to Activities, Picture books to Books, and Reading tips to Guides.
Finish and check the example
Set the eyebrow to SAMPLE STRUCTURE, the title to Illustrative resource library, and the context to Synthetic example — seven nodes, three levels. Choose Tree, Atlas light and Slide. Leave text scale and preview zoom at 100% and use the automatic card positions.
Click Download PNG. With these settings the example produces a 1200 × 675 image. Open it and check the three category branches, six parent-child connections and all seven short labels and details. Other layouts, sizes or added nodes can produce different dimensions.
Keep the structure and text readable
Use parent selection to describe the hierarchy, then use layout and dragging to present it. Moving a card does not change its parent. Choose your layout and canvas size before fine placement because either selection clears drag positions. Reset view is for text scale and zoom, not a way to undo a move.
Keep detailed explanations in the surrounding document rather than forcing paragraphs into a node. Check the actual output for shortened labels and missing words; canvas expansion addresses the structure’s space, not every text-fit problem. If your relationships need several parents or cross-links, this single-parent tree may not fit the task.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make a probability tree diagram?
You can manually put outcomes and probabilities in short node labels, such as "Heads (1/2)". Branch lines do not support probability labels, and the tool does not multiply probabilities or validate the totals. Calculate and check those separately.
Can one node have two parents?
No. Each node has one parent or No parent. The parent list excludes the node itself and its descendants to prevent a cycle. For a simple parent-to-child family outline this may be enough; use the family tree maker when you need couples and family relationships.
Where do I edit text and move the cards?
Edit the eyebrow, title, context, node labels and optional details in the Data panel. Drag cards in the preview to adjust placement. The up and down arrows change node order; use the parent selector to change a relationship.
What happens when I remove a node?
Only that node is removed. Its direct children move to its parent; if it was a root, those children become roots. The tool keeps at least two nodes. Check the resulting relationships before downloading.
What do Reset and Reset view change?
Reset in the preset area reloads the selected sample: it replaces the header and nodes, clears drag positions and returns text scale and preview zoom to 100%. Reset view only returns text scale and preview zoom to 100%; it does not restore labels or card positions. Selecting a layout or canvas size also clears drag positions while retaining node data.
Will the complete text always fit?
No. The canvas can grow to fit more nodes or levels, but individual cards and header text still have display limits. Long text may lose trailing words without an ellipsis. Shorten the label or detail, then inspect both the preview and downloaded PNG. A larger canvas does not guarantee that every word will appear.
Which exports are free, and does zoom change their size?
Standard PNG is free without signup or a watermark. Pro or an active export pass unlocks SVG, HD PNG and MP4. Mobile, Square and Slide select a starting canvas size; the structure can expand it. Preview zoom only changes the on-page view, so inspect the downloaded file for its actual dimensions.
Can I save an editable tree or open it in the editor?
Saving an editable design to your account requires signing in. A downloaded PNG is an image, not an editable project. Open in editor starts a separate editor workflow; review its layout and text there rather than assuming the studio’s appearance transfers unchanged.
